Hello everyone, I am Boboleia Kom and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Management here at James Cook University. I am an international student from Papua New Guinea and I am absolutely loving my time here studying in Townsville. One of my favourite things about studying at JCU is how friendly and helpful the staff are and the laid back atmosphere on campus.
I decided to come to Townsville because of its close distance to home, the warm weather all year around, and the tight knit group of PNG students here on campus. These three factors have made settling into university life a lot easier and enjoyable. I have also made friends with people from different cultural backgrounds, and the events that I look forward to every year are the different cultural festivals.
Living and studying in a regional area of Queensland has made me aware of the challenges that the locals here face in terms of sustainability of businesses and the natural environment. Through JCUs Entrepreneur society, I have met like minded young individuals who share the same goal of using innovation as a tool to provide solutions, and improvements for regional Queenslanders. I also volunteer my time doing outreach and support service programs such as Court Network. Participating in more community programs offered a new appreciation for this place, its indigenous culture and its people. I am still looking forward to exploring more of Townsville before my time here is up! Can’t wait to share more with you.
