Introducing Vanessa Maglaya, Philippines International Student

I am Vanessa Maglaya, I studied a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and am a Philippines Registered Nurse. I am currently enrolled in English Academic Purposes and will continue with my nursing career here at James Cook University.  My experience of studying here at JCU is fantastic, teachers and students are both friendly and helpful. It gives me the feeling that we are family, that is the reason why I am inspired to go to school every day. Each morning is a new adventure, new experience, and new lessons to learn for me.

I choose to move and study here in Townsville because people are hospitable, polite, united and supportive, which is pretty similar to the place where I came from. Apart from that, the weather here is identical to what we have in the Philippines, so adjustment is not necessary because I am not used to living in cold places. Another reason why I choose Townsville is that some of my husband’s relatives are living here, so it is less likely to me that I will be experiencing homesickness because I am with a few family members, which is the biggest advantage I have.

On my journey here in Townsville I am hoping that I will be able to explore more of the beauty of Townsville and it’s nearby tourist destinations. I love walking along The Strand up to the Jezzine Barracks during my spare time and have the perfect view of the rock pool and the beach. In addition, I like the fact that different nationalities here in Townsville conduct their own festival celebrations each year, which provides me with an opportunity to experience different cultures. I am looking forward to more great years of experiences here in Townsville towards my whole journey, that I will be able to achieve more than what life can offer. I believed that experience is the best teacher and memories are treasures to keep, so capture every moment.
