If you’re like me, a sucker for all things creative whether it be fashion or music then you’d be pleasantly surprised to know about some of the awesome events that happen here in Townsville.

In April the regional music festival known as Groovin the Moo made its way to Townsville, showcasing a brilliant line up of musical acts. The festival this year sold out, and it was awesome grooving all day with a crowd of 15,000! There was a lot of dancing, music, food and awesome festival outfit’s and of course lots of beautiful sunshine. I was so happy I got to watch one of my favourite bands perform, as well as discover new unique bands and artists. Even if it was just for a day, it was the perfect escape my friends and I needed from the mental drain of university life. An event like this is something very different from what I would expect back home in Papua New Guinea, so it was also nice to experience something new.

A month later in May, Townsville hosted it’s annual Fashion Show. The show was open to the public and showcased many talented local designers. I had the opportunity to chat with a few and ask them what it was like running a fashion business here in TSV, which I came to realise had its challenges. Townsville is full of so many creatives and going to this show made me realise the importance of seeking out and supporting small local businesses!

Ambassadors visited the Billabong Sanctuary on Christmas Eve! 🎄
@billabongsanctuary is perfect for friends hangout or family gathering! They had interactive experiences with Australian native wildlife such as #wombat , #koala , #python and #crocodile and learning about their natural habitats and animal adaptations that inspired our ambassadors to appreciate the nature in North Queensland, Australia!

@reecemartis and @s.sailla_007 found meeting and hugging Bella the python the best moment, saying that it’s “the most cuddly snake” they have ever met!

@eryn.chang and @bubblycherie held a koala and a wombat for the first time! They couldn’t hide the smile on their faces!

Thank you Ray and the staff from Billabong Sanctuary on giving our ambassadors such an awesome experience to celebrate the festive season!

Just another exciting thing the ambassadors tried right in our very own Townsville. Study Townsville Ambassadors visited the wild western town of Ravenswood to explore the history of the region. Not only did they find a town with lots of intriguing stories but the outback with Goats, Ghosts and Galahs.

The Ravenswood goldfield was the fifth largest producer of gold in Queensland during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chinese Settlement Area dates from the 1870s to the early 20th century. While the settlement area included market gardens along Elphinstone Creek, the remaining physical evidence is concentrated south of Deighton Street and comprises the ruins of a temple, adjacent pig roasting oven, and associated archaeological features and artefact scatters.

The Chinese community had a large impact on the development of commerce in the goldfields and ultimately in Townsville itself.

A region full of cultural diversity.

A place to visit include: Thorp's Building Heritage Tearooms and Treasure
