There are many beautiful walks and bike ways in Townsville, but one of my absolute favorites is the Ross River Parkway. The Parkway consists of over 30 km of pathway along the gorgeous Ross River and it is also divided into smaller circuits if you don’t feel like riding or walking too long of a distance. The individual circuits range from 1.6km to 7.2km.

There is lots to do and see along the river as well, so you can even make a day of it. One of my favorite places on the way is Palmetum botanic gardens, where you can see plenty of wildlife too (just be mindful, cycling is not allowed in the Palmetum area). Another great spot to stop for a while is the Riverway Arts Center. There are also plenty picnic areas on the way if you’d just like to stop and enjoy the river views.

The pictures are taken from my bike ride along the Aplin’s Weir Circuit, which is also one of Townsville’s 10 000 steps walks. What a beautiful place to get a little exercise, or spend the afternoon with a lovely picnic!

I enjoy going to the Parkway for a bike ride especially during the week, when it’s near empty and it feels like I have the whole place for myself. During the weekends the Parkway gets a little busier, but thanks to the wide pathway there’s still plenty room for everyone. There are maps for the circuits (and also for other walks and bike ways) on Townsville’s website, but they are also clearly marked oIMG_0122 (3)n the pathway.

Ambassadors visited the Billabong Sanctuary on Christmas Eve! 🎄
@billabongsanctuary is perfect for friends hangout or family gathering! They had interactive experiences with Australian native wildlife such as #wombat , #koala , #python and #crocodile and learning about their natural habitats and animal adaptations that inspired our ambassadors to appreciate the nature in North Queensland, Australia!

@reecemartis and @s.sailla_007 found meeting and hugging Bella the python the best moment, saying that it’s “the most cuddly snake” they have ever met!

@eryn.chang and @bubblycherie held a koala and a wombat for the first time! They couldn’t hide the smile on their faces!

Thank you Ray and the staff from Billabong Sanctuary on giving our ambassadors such an awesome experience to celebrate the festive season!

The group takes on karting @pitstopkartingtsv. Loads of fun, racing and friendly competition. Definitely a must try! Just another exciting thing the ambassadors tried right in our very own Townsville. Make sure you go down and get in a few laps! #studyheregoanywhere #studytownsville #gokarting #studyqueensland #townsville #karting #star #pitstopkarting

Study Townsville Ambassadors visited the wild western town of Ravenswood to explore the history of the region. Not only did they find a town with lots of intriguing stories but the outback with Goats, Ghosts and Galahs.

The Ravenswood goldfield was the fifth largest producer of gold in Queensland during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chinese Settlement Area dates from the 1870s to the early 20th century. While the settlement area included market gardens along Elphinstone Creek, the remaining physical evidence is concentrated south of Deighton Street and comprises the ruins of a temple, adjacent pig roasting oven, and associated archaeological features and artefact scatters.

The Chinese community had a large impact on the development of commerce in the goldfields and ultimately in Townsville itself.

A region full of cultural diversity.

A place to visit include: Thorp's Building Heritage Tearooms and Treasure
